Sharing the Spirit of America
Join the Fort Jackson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for a special Reading of the Declaration of Independence at Greene County Veterans Memorial Park in Waynesburg at 6pm on July 8, 2026, as part of the nationwide “Sharing the Spirit of America” initiative sponsored by the Hawai‘i America250 Commission. This historic event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776, when the founding document was read aloud to citizens throughout the colonies.
At the designated time of 6pm (EDT), communities across all 50 states and U.S. territories will unite in reading the Declaration together, symbolically connecting Americans from coast to coast in a shared moment of patriotism and remembrance. Led locally by the Fort Jackson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Waynesburg observance will honor the courage, sacrifice, and enduring ideals of the nation’s founders while inviting residents and visitors to reflect on the meaning of liberty and independence 250 years later. Guests of all ages are encouraged to attend this inspiring community gathering and experience a once-in-a-generation celebration of America’s enduring spirit.
