One of Greene County, Pennsylvania’s historical and cherished annual events is returning very soon, and it’s “Fair” to say that it is a weeklong traditional celebration that visitors across the nation would greatly enjoy. The traditional Jacktown Fair – which is held in the picturesque area of Wind Ridge in the western end of the county – is steeped in a rich, deep and very proud agricultural heritage that dates all the way back to 1866.
Now Paul and Amy’s son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Diane Stokes, carry on Harry’s neighborliness with a little bit of everything for sale, at Stokes General Store. It’s this kind of gathering place that every small town needs to stay alive, including gas pumps and a family-run deli.
For more than a century, one advertising campaign used an unusual medium to feature the same message: “Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco: Treat Yourself to the Best.” The ad and accompanying slogan – painted on barn sides first regionally, then across the country – was the marketing campaign of the Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company of Wheeling, West Virginia.
