Solar Eclipse 2024
On April 8th, Pennsylvania is set to see the Sun, Moon and Earth align for a solar eclipse. Although Greene County is not in the path of totality, we are set to have a deep partial solar eclipse with a magnitude of 95-96%. And several locations across Greene County are celebrating with Solar Eclipse parties.
The eclipse begins at 1:59pm as the moon moves in front of the sun. As we reach the peak at 3:16pm, we will see (with safety protection) the sun take a crescent shape. The temperature may drop a few degrees and the light will diminish slightly. Within minutes, the temperature will rebound and the light returns. The eclipse finishes at 4:30pm.
When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. You can also use an indirect viewing method, such as a pinhole projector. Safety Guidelines from NASA
The next solar eclipse occurrence for Pennsylvania will be on August 12, 2045.
