Summer is a magical time in Greene County, and the Eva K Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg and Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels are pulling out all the stops to make this season unforgettable for kids and families.

Unleash your creativity with exciting Lego challenges that will have you building towering structures and intricate designs limited only by your imagination. Express your artistic side with a variety of fun crafts, from painting and drawing to sculpting and collage-making, letting your inspiration run wild.

Friday Fun Days
Every Friday afternoon at 3pm, the Flenniken Public Library comes alive with laughter, excitement and fun as it hosts its highly anticipated Friday Fun Days to celebrate the joyous summer season. The library transforms into a vibrant hub of activity, with a delightful array of engaging crafts, captivating storytimes, lively games, and even special guest appearances that ignite the imagination.
Summer Quest!
Learn to Color Our World at the Bowlby Library this summer for school students looking for a day of free enrichment! Games! Art! Experiments! Exploration! A day of colorful fun (lunch included), challenges, creations, and more! Included in Summer Quest are a trip to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and a picnic at Ryerson State Park. Register Here

All early childhood classes at Bowlby Library may participate in the scheduled field trips accompanied by an adult. Transportation for the field trips will be provided.
Family Game Night
Looking for a fun way to spend a Tuesday evening? Gather up your friends and family and head over to Flenniken Public Library for their weekly Family Game Night! Starting at 5pm, you can enjoy playing both classic favorites and new board games. Challenge your loved ones to an intense game of Scrabble or work together to solve a complex cooperative game. With a wide variety of games to choose from, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Mosey to Mordor
The Bowlby Library invites you to join their Mosey to Mordor Fundraising Challenge! From June 1st to August 31st, participants will walk 178 miles, with each mile representing 10 miles of Frodo’s 1,779-mile journey from the Shire to Mordor. You can seek sponsors to donate based on your miles or simply participate for fun! Walking just 2 miles daily will complete the challenge on time. The first five to finish will win a Special Edition Copy of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy illustrated by J.R.R. Tolkien, and all who complete the journey will receive an award. Register through Bowlby Library’s ReaderZone using code e9244 to select Mosey To Mordor and track your progress.
Lord of the Rings Reading Challenge
Looking for a summer adventure without leaving home? Read The Lord of the Rings! Bowlby Library invites you to tackle The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by August 31st. Complete the challenge and win a prize. Track your progress through ReaderZone on the Library’s website using code e9244 for the Lord of the Rings Reading Challenge.
Lego Play!
Unleash your creativity and imagination at Flenniken Public Library’s Lego Play! sessions every Saturday morning at 10am. Kids of all ages are invited to dig into the library’s Lego collection and build to their heart’s content. Challenge yourself with building prompts or let your imagination run wild as you create your own unique Lego masterpieces. It’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning exercising your innovation, problem-solving, and artistic skills in a fun, relaxed environment.

Ready for Kindergarten!

This program gives preschoolers (ages 4-6) practice in the skills they’ll need when they start kindergarten in the fall by participating in fun and engaging activities. Lunch is included. The 8-week program begins June 16th. Registration Form

This class is designed for those children entering Kindergarten this fall. Listen to a story, sing a song, and make a craft to help with the transition to school. Program runs June 24-July 29.
