Rain Day Festival
Rain Day Festival is Waynesburg’s claim to fame! Held every year on July 29—rain or shine—this FREE community tradition dates back to the early 1800s and brings thousands to downtown Waynesburg for a full day of celebration.
Hosted by the Waynesburg Special Events Commission, the festival features live entertainment on two stages, arts and crafts vendors, delicious food, children’s activities, a high-energy Foam Party, and much more. A highlight of the day is the Mayor’s annual “Hat Bet” with a celebrity guest, along with a variety of beloved contests including Baby Rain Day, Umbrella Decorating, Downtown Window Decorating, Coloring Contests, the Jack McCracken Award, and the crowning of the Mini, Little, and Junior Miss Rain Drop.
Festival favorite Wayne Drop—the world’s largest raindrop mascot—can be spotted throughout the day greeting guests and adding to the fun.
The festival also includes a meaningful tribute to the Rain Day Boys, honoring the 18 soldiers of Company K, 110th Infantry, 28th Division who left for battle in France during World War I. Seventeen of those soldiers lost their lives on July 29, 1918. A moment of silence is observed each year in their memory prior to the award presentation.
