Guide to the Holidays and Upcoming Events in Greene County
By Emma Herrle
Sitting upon the cusp of the October to November transition is like walking a very thin line. We dare not wear ourselves out on festivities too early, but while you wait in anticipation of the most wonderful time of the year, occupy your time by marking your calendar with some upcoming events you don’t want to miss as your guide to the holidays in Greene County.
Don’t neglect your fill on pumpkin spice
Enjoy Pumpkin Spice Night with 5 Kidz Kandy to ease your way into the holiday seasons while still paying tribute to fall festivities. Carve a pumpkin, enjoy a seasonal drink, and try a mini pumpkin treat on any evening October 25 through October 29 from 5pm to 9 p.m. This event is restricted to reservations only, but you can make yours today by calling 724.627.0552. The cost of the event is $10 per person, and other goodies will be available for purchase.
Craft shows galore to showcase one-of-a-kind gifts
Throughout the months of November and December, there will be various craft shows open throughout Greene County. Two of these will be hosted at the EQT REC Center, the Holiday Extravaganza on November 6 and the Fall Vendor Show on November 13. The Greene Academy of Art’s Christmas Craft Show returns on November 13 and 14 in Carmichaels, and the Waynesburg VFW Auxiliary Fall Craft Show is set to take place at the Greene County Fairgrounds on November 20. Finally, the Holiday Market during Waynesburg’s Holiday Open House on December 3 and the Holiday Craft Blast at the Greene County Fairgrounds on December 12 will close out the season.
Holiday craft shows are a fantastic opportunity to find hand-made gifts and unique stocking stuffers as we celebrate the season of giving. It also gives the opportunity to build relationships with Greene County’s community of artisans and receive a personalized shopper and customer service experience.
Christmas meets history meets Santa Claus
Enjoy the splendor of the Greene County Historical Society and Museum in a completely new light, or rather, string of lights as it will be decorated for Christmas the weekends of November 27 & 28 and December 4 & 5. Visitors are invited to walk through the rooms decorated in fashions of the past and enjoy light refreshments. Santa Claus will also be making a visit. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for information coming soon!
The evening High Street turns into a holiday wonderland
Plan your visit to downtown Waynesburg the evening of December 3 for the Waynesburg Holiday Open House where a mix of shopping and holiday activities fill High Street with cheer and festivities. Returning are many favorites like the free wagon rides, caricatures, and pictures with Santa. Both indoor and outdoor shopping will be available spotlighting local merchants and local crafters, artisans, and vendors in the Holiday Market. Of course, find your way in front of the Greene County Courthouse for the tree lighting ceremony at 6pm!
Celebrate with a longstanding tradition, in reverse
Established in 1938, this tradition is one that the holiday season in Greene County would not be the same without. The County Wide Christmas Parade will be held once again at the Greene County Fairgrounds this year on Saturday, December 4 from 2 to 4pm. Attendees will drive through the parade floats listening to Christmas music, marching bands, Santa Claus and more!
There are plenty of events to take advantage of as you rev your excitement for the coming holiday season. These can be explored in more detail on our event calendar.
