Guided Machine Shop Tours
Experience a step back in time at the W.A. Young & Sons Machine Shop in the historic riverfront town of Rices Landing, Greene County. This remarkably preserved industrial site offers a rare glimpse into early 20th-century manufacturing.
Built in 1900, the shop once produced parts for steamboats, coal mines, and railroads while serving the needs of local businesses. When operations ceased in 1965, the doors were closed and everything was left in place—resulting in a fully intact, line shaft–driven machine shop that remains virtually unchanged today.
Guided tours take visitors through the blacksmith shop, pattern shop, hardware store, and foundry. Live demonstrations bring the space to life as the original machinery is powered on, offering a unique look at historic technology in action.
Tours are held most Sundays from late April through November.
Group size is limited to 10 participants.
Admission is $10 per person.
Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased at www.riversofsteel.com. Guests must present a digital or printed ticket upon arrival.
